Recently, we indulged with few of our local food cravings from 8 Crabs Seafood Kitchen, an online stall which offers crabs and seafood delivery and other dishes too such as meat & poultry, vegetable, noodles, and sides. They are known for serving the best crabs in the market, so I made sure I ordered two of their best sellers — the Chilli Crab & Salted Egg Crab.
8crabs is the only company in Singapore using grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild crabs. This is graded by the most experienced crab graders in the trade. This causes the crabs to get stressed very easily in captivity as many farms cannot replicate their natural habitat. When stressed, crabs produce ammonia, which is a sign of decomposition of seafood. Therefore this makes a lot of difference in the quality of the crabs if you compared it with wild crabs which are meatier, tastier, bigger, and less watery.

Crabs used for both dishes are premium Sri Lankan wild catch crabs and it’s chef recommendation too. The large (approximately 750 grams live) crab is good for 1-2 pax while the ex-large (900 grams-1kg live) can be shared up to 3 pax, they also have XX-large size. The serving is in 1 pc crab.
It’s indeed tastier, meatier and big! I love both gravies, it’s cooked the local style. The Salted Egg is creamy, you can taste the yolk in it and it isn’t salty just right for me. While the Chilli Crab is by far the best I’ve ever tried. The sweetness and spiciness are just right. The leftover gravy I kept and reheated the next day and fried my own Man Tou. I’m just obsessed with their Chilli Crab! No ammonia smell for both dishes.
I ordered 3 sets of Fried Man Tou to pair with the Chilli Crab (S$6/set of 5), what else is perfect combo right?
Generally, I highly recommended their Crab dishes, although I haven’t tried the Black Pepper Crab surely the quality of crab is the same.
PREMIUM CEREAL PRAWN (medium S$36)
Another favorite from the 8 Crabs menu, I loved how they seasoned it and the meat is sweet and meatier. This medium size can be shared up to 3 pax.
PREMIUM SALTED EGG PRAWN – Deshelled (large S$45)
The size of the prawn isn’t as big as the Cereal Prawn but the meat quality is the same. It’s creamy and not salty. I liked it with steamed rice.
BUTTER BATTERED CALAMARI (large S$22)
It’s paired with mayonnaise with a hint of lemon. This dish must be eaten while it’s hot or else you’ll miss the crisp. It’s tasty and fragrant but the batter was a bit thick. Since it’s deep-fried expect oil dripped at the bottom of the container that causes the bottom part to be soggy. Large size can serve 6 to 8 pax.
Overall I recommend 8 crabs for your crabs and prawn cravings. The delivery is reliable, it’s on time!
