I was so happy to spend this holiday with friends many moons ago. Since we came from different countries, we only met at our hotel. I’d arrived first and I was forced to take the motorbike going to the hotel as the traffic was very heavy. I’m scared of riding a motorbike but I had to conquer it so not to be stuck in the traffic.

We’d stayed in Bangkok, Thailand for three days. It wasn’t enough as there are so many things to explore. But, we covered almost everything in our itinerary except no. 10 below.

1. Visit Wat Pho Temple

It’s a Buddhist temple, considered as one of the oldest in Thailand. Also known as “Temple of the Reclining Buddha”, measured at 46 m long. It’s the main attraction of the temple and the largest reclining buddha of the City. The temple complex houses have the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand and considered the earliest center for public education. The famous massage school has two massage pavilions located within the temple area and additional rooms within the training facility outside the temple.

Aside from being a home to more than thousands of Buddhas around the area, you can also find an interesting architectural design of temples. The complex is divided into a different area, there’s for Public viewing, residential quarters of the monks and school.

I considered this as my favorite temple in Thailand and a MUST see.

2. Floating Market

There are more than one “Floating Markets“ in Bangkok, find the one that is near to you. We had visited Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, it’s big and crowded, mostly are tourists. It’s considered as the most popular floating market in Thailand. It’s far from our hotel but since its along the way going to Safari World, the distance wasn’t an issue.

You can eat and shop while you tour around the floating market in a boat.

3. Safari World

Safari World is divided in two areas, the open space of Safari Park where you can drive through in your car and experience the African wilderness setting and Marine Park which is more of a traditional zoo that offers different kind of shows, food stalls and souvenir shops.

If you remember, I featured Safari World in a separate post. It’s located in Northern Bangkok, about 45 minutes drive from the city center.

4. Ride the Tuk Tuk 

It’s a popular public transportation in Bangkok by most tourists for an experience rather than a practical way to get around. It’s originated from an old-fashioned rickshaw during the second World War, a tuk-tuk is essentially a rickshaw with a small engine fitted in.

It’s cheaper than a taxi so why not roam around with Tuk Tuk.

5. Shopping

Platinum Fashion Mall is located at the center of Pratunam, a 10-minute walk from either Ratchathewi or Chidlom BTS Skytrain, it’s accessible compared to other clothing bazaars of the same scale. Plus, it’s air-conditioned with a large food court, cafés and fast food chains. It’s also walking distance from our hotel.

It’s like an indoor version of the Chatuchak Weekend Market. It specializes in wholesale fashion clothing and accessories, with four floors of shopping space. And YES haggling is part of the fun and it’s cheaper in bulk.

But, if you don’t mind going to weekend market, Chatuchak is cheaper. Unfortunately, it was raining when we went there. But, it’s heaven for shopaholic of cheap clothes, shoes, accessories and a lot more.

6. Elephant Village

Just like the Floating Market, Elephant places are all around Thailand too. It depends on what activity with Elephant you liked. There is elephant ride, bathing, and elephant shows. I think elephant bathing is more interesting than the ride. I found riding an elephant is a bit cruel. It’s just the Tita (Auntie) in me talking, you think differently when you aged. hehehe!

That’s Grace and Deyz at the Elephant Village. It’s the same area as the floating market, they are actually nearby.

7. Hand-crafted Furniture Shopping

If you are into hand-crafted furniture, you’re in the right country. You can find some furniture and decorative manufacturers who ship your shopped items directly to your country.

Thailand together with Indonesia has lead the industries of beautifully hand-crafted furniture and decorative items with fine craftsmanship and innovative design.

It was so nice to see how they engraved every detail of the wooden furniture and decorative. It’s amazingly admirable!

8. Wat Traimit Temple 

It’s a temple of the Golden Buddha, located at the end of Chinatown’s Yaowarat Road, near Hualampong Railway Station. Wat Traimit houses the world’s largest massive gold seated Buddha measuring nearly 5 metres in height and weighing 5.5 tons.

9. Ride the Taxi Boat

It’s not a secret that Bangkok is one of the busiest city with heavy traffic. If you need to escape the road, a taxi boat is the best alternative when the destination is a bit far. While, if it’s nearby you can take the motorbike.

10. Lebua Sky Bar

Sky bar is located on the rooftop of Lebua at State Tower hotel. It’s one of the most popular rooftop venues in Bangkok, with both tourists and locals. And considered as one of the tallest rooftop bars in the world. It became very well-known when the “Hangover Part II” movie was filmed at this hotel.

It has a spectacular panoramic view of the city. Best time to hangout here is just before the sunset. So, you’ll experience the beautiful city skyline both day and night.
