Visited KL, Malaysia for few times and there’s more than just visiting the famous Petronas Twin Towers and even more than the 10 things I’ve listed. 

Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and it’s the largest city in the country. While it embraced modernity with its towering skyscrapers and technology, you can observed that the culture, traditional customs and religious belief are still deeply practiced.

It’s one of my favorite cities for its richness in culture and variety of food from Malay, Chinese to Indian cuisines. And There’s more to explore in this city. On my next trip, I will surely visit the 1910 Moorish-inspired Old Railway Station, the riverside Jamek Mosque and the Sultan Abdul Samad building with its 131-foot clock tower.

 

1. The Petronas Tower

I’ve seen this both day and night time. Petronas Twin Towers are stunning at any time of the day. I’m yet to explore the top of this tower on my next trip. And it’s not free and there’s a strict operating hours too. Most of the time the queue is long, so it’s best to buy your tickets in advance and it’s limited to 800 tickets per day.

It’s also connected to my favorite shopping mall in KL, the Suria KLCC. I liked the local coffee from the Kopitiam inside the mall.

2. Istana Negara, Jalan Duta

Istana Negara means National Palace. Built in 2007, It’s situated along Jalan Istana. It opened in 2011 and replaced the old Istana Negara which was located at a different compound in central Kuala Lumpur, which I also visited. This 13-acre castle used to be the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia

In my photos, the lot surrounds the palace still looks empty, yet fast forward to 2017 there’s so much constructions and improvements around the palace ground. It’s not opened to the public, visitors are only able to catch a glimpse outside its entrance gates.

3. Little India

It is situated close to KL Sentral station. It’s an extremely colorful part of KL. Upon reaching, you can hear INDIAaaa! screaming at you. This place is all about Indian culture, bright colors, food, shopping and Hindu temples.

4. KL Tower – Observation Deck

Also know as “Menara KL”. The observation deck is at 276 meters above ground level offers stunning and thrilling view of metropolitan city Kuala Lumpur. Take your time to walk around the deck, enjoying different scenery and the panoramic view.

You have to buy the entrance tickets for access and operating hours at 9:00am until 10:00pm everyday.

There’s sky deck and sky box too. And KL Tower animal zone at the ground level, where you kind find rare types of spiders and other animals.

5. Batu Caves

If you remember, I did a separate post for Batu Caves.

During my visit, I was in awe of its gigantic statue of the Hindu God at the main entrance. The golden statue of Lord Murugan is the main attraction of the caves, stands at 42.7m tall. It was erected in 2006 and said to be the largest in the world.

6. Explore Local Food

KL, Malaysia being multi-cultured city, you can find variety of food choices — Malay, Chinese & Indian cuisines are on top.

You’ll be sure to come across some of the city’s best dining spots, including the hawker stalls and traditional neighborhood kopitiam (coffee shops) that will call your attention with the aroma of freshly cooked food.

I liked how this local chicken noodle soup is cooked. I always indulged every time I’m in KL.

7. Times Square

This is a shopping haven for those who are looking for cheap ones but goodie. I remember buying few tops and accessories from this mall. Branded imitations are also available here.

8. Putrajaya Bridge

A must place to visit when you’re in Putrajaya. A beautiful piece of architecture and it’s picturesque at night. The colorful street light changes every minute. You can also take the boat ride from Putra Square to the Bridge to complete your adventure in Putrajaya.

9. Perdana Putra

It’s the Prime Minister’s Department Complex housing several government buildings and agencies. It is located on the main hill in Putrajaya, and was built in 1997. The buildings are influenced by Malay, Islamic and European architecture. It also has become the icon for Putrajaya, with its distinctive green dome and clay like colored buildings. Besides the government complexes, you can find Putra Mosque, the Dataran Putra, and Perdana Walk around the area.

10. Putra Mosque

This is also located in Putrajaya area. It is a beautiful mosque with its trademark pink-domed. The mosque can accommodate 15,000 worshipers. The architectural design looks like a Morrocan inspired.

It is located near the Malaysian Prime Minister Office at Perdana Putra, just beside the Putrajaya Lake and it is a very popular tourists destination. You can enter inside the mosque for free.

Putrajaya area is impressive, you can take a half-day trip to experience its touristy attractions. It’s best viewed when illuminated at night. Therefore, best timing is late afternoon so you can experience both day and night scenery.
